Foot Print Introduction

Description:The "Footprint Introduction" is a great way for students to get to know each other while expressing their lifestyles, interests, hobbies, or family through artwork. Students can use different media to represent their interests. This project will involve creating a footprint that includes the student's name and incorporates three or more different mediums. Some examples of media I used are construction paper, crayons, markers, scrapbook paper, colored pencils, beads, and printed images. For instance, the symbols I used to represent my interests include leaves for nature walks, flowers for gardening, paint for crafting, and yarn for crocheting. I included a dog symbol to represent my dog, Daisy, a cupcake for my August birthday, and figures of people to represent my family. I also included a map to symbolize the places I've lived—Thailand, Indiana, and South Dakota—and a ring to represent my upcoming marriage.

Extension Activity:As an extension activity, students can choose one item from their footprint and write a story about it. For example, if a student chooses the dog symbol, they could write about adventures with their dog or a funny memory. This activity allows teachers to gain a deeper understanding of why the student chose that particular item to introduce themselves.
