Teaching the Elements and Principle

Activity: Take pictures to represent different elements and principles. You will then explain why you chose the pictures and the definition.

Movement:

Definition: Objects that move places or positions

I chose the picture of my dog showing how she is jumping

Value:

Definition: is light or dark with color

The picture I chose is the sunrise showing different light with the dark color

Pattern:

Definition: Objects that have the same patterns over and over

I chose this image because it shows the same patterns repeating

Color:

Definition: Anything that makes things look bright and different from others

I chose this photo because it shows different colors and how they blend together

Unity/ Variety

Definition- Anything with different objects that flow together to create a nice image.

I chose this image because it shows how they are all butterflies but are different color that makes up one image.

Extended Activity :

An activity students can do is design a book cover. Students will focus on the principle of balance. They will choose a book they like, write down the elements of the book cover, and then create a new cover. Students will use color, imagery, and different layouts that all balance each other. They will then present their new covers to the class and explain how they applied the principle of balance. This ties in with problem-solving because they must design a balanced book cover.
